Child safety locks

I have an 09 crew cab and I set the child safety switch to lock so the kids can't let themselves out. I closed the door and it will not open from the inside or the outside. The locking mechanism is working, the lock **** will go up and down manually but still no luck. Anybody had this problem?

is this only on one of your rear doors? is sounds as if you have snapped the cable in the door. regardless of whether the child lock is engaged or not, if the door is unlocked, it should open from the outside. something else is going on inside.

BTW: im sure u knew all that i was just reiterating it for you.

You unlock the doors, and the outside handle will not open the door ?

If so, time to take it back to the dealer, there is a problem with it.

If you put the child handle in the open position, and slightly pinch it and operate the handle, you should feel movement in the child handle switch.

When you put it to the child handle in the close position, you should feel no tension on the child switch.

Yes, it is only one of the rear doors. I set the lock on one door and then tried it, good thing I tried one first.
The way it stands now I cannot open the door from the inside or outside, locked or unlocked.
Just got the truck a 2 weeks ago and it has 500 miles on it, I was hoping it could be an electrical issue with the locks rather than mechanical with the linkage. Its a shame to start pealing the door panels off a new truck, harder yet when you can't get the door open to do it. Maybe they can get at it with a Slim Jim.

The child locks are a mechanical thing.

No big deal getting the door panel off, few screws and it almost drops off.

Sure they know how to get it open if the latch is not working.

Just make sure you carefully check around the door handle and the door edge when you pick it up.

I talked to the service dept at my local Ford dealer and they told me to bring the truck in and they will fix it. When I asked how they said they would have to PRY the door open, can you imagine!
