dash/gauge swap

My 98 XL doesn't have a tach. Can I just swap it for one that does have a tach? I know some cars dashes are picky about VINs and odometers, and some aren't wired for the other gauges, just wondered about F150s

I found one on CL from a 97, just wondered if it was a direct swap or if I had to do anything else. What about programming for rear ratios? Is that something I'll need to do if its different?

that's a concern of mine (being a moral citizen) I have 124k and the "new" cluster only has 112k.

I know its an analog odometer, but is it electronically or mechanically driven?
