fog mod electrical mess

I appologize, this is confusing, please bear with me. I have an 03 Lightning.

I was doing a fog light mod I had read about and screwed something up. I spliced "wire A" into the #5 yellow wire. Then I spliced "wire B" into the brown #12 wire. Then I connected wires A and B to a toggle switch. So now I'm able to turn the fogs on via toggle switch in any position except off.

It was working, until I ran a ground wire off the C position on the toggle switch (A and B are still connected) and touched it to some pot metal around the steering shaft (I had removed the plastic piece that goes around the steering column under the dash display). This illuminated the toggle switch.

Then with the headlight switch turned to HEADLIGHTS, the headlight switch pulled out to FOGLIGHTS, I turned off the toggle switch (with the ground wire still touching) and I lost my dash display, and my parking lights.

So this is what I have now with key in running position:
(headlight switch)
off: nothing
parking lights (toggle off): nothing
parking lights (toggle on):nothing
headlights (toggle off): headlights turn on
headlights (toggle on): headlights turn on
headlights pulled out (toggle off): headlights and fogs turn on
headlights pulled out (toggle on): headlights and fogs on, dash and display lights now come on.

I burned out 5A fuse #27
#25 (not used) had a 10A in it, pulled that, put it in #27, no difference

sorry for the long post, any ideas?
thanks, Chris

I don't know what mod you did to the fog lamps, none I have seen have the toggle switch in them.

Fuse #27 in the central junction box should not have been needed with the fog lamp mod listed here and at NLOC.

I would guess you wired the toggle switch incorrectly, as you had a short to ground for the old fog lamp switch fuse #27.

Leaving out the fog lamp modification, did you check ?

Passenger compartment fuse panel Fuse #18 and Engine Compartment fuse panel Fuse #6

Passenger compartment Fuse #25 -10A is used, that is your heated mirrors.

I would think checking the other fuses for what else you could have blown would be a good starting point.

^^^^

You're too good man. I blew the #6 under the hood. I wrote a damn novel describing the problem, and it was this little fuse the size of a MIGRAINE! Thanks a ton.
