Oil Temp Up n Down

Not sure if this has been posted before I tried search and came up with 500 other posts... My oil temp guage.. early in the morning goes up then goes down.. then back up to regular between L and H... then back down.. and so forth... Till it runs for a while and it stays where it should be... Usually it stays to normal position then in a blink of an eye it goes back down and stays for like 3 seconds. If really needed ill take pictures... or a video

Its been doing this for a long time.. even before oil changes, and after. Not sure what to do

im just guessing i probaly should start warming up my vehicle.. even though i live in a tropical area... im just worried that im getting no mpg for just idling there... mornings arent that cold. around 86*F in mornings...

My truck has about 116,000 miles on it, 2000 Ford F 150 v8 4.6L\

Oil i use right now is 5w-30 Synthetic Blend... Motorcraft... And help ideas.. Thanks!

Is this an add on gauge you are referring to ?

The one on the dash is suppose to look like an oil pressure gauge, but it is really a redundant oil light.

Turn your key to the on position, and check that the oil light comes on.

BTW : 86* F, you have got to be kidding me, cold
I just had -17 * F ambient air temps last week. This week is a het wave at 22* F.

Its freezing for us here only in the mornings, cauz the rest of the day is just straight up heat... the whole year round..

Im talking above the one in the dash of my '00
Not sure but it has a the sign of a teapot.. and thats the gauge that keeps constantly going up and down..., but it stops later on during the day.
the light comes on, all does when i turn it to the on position.

this one :

page 19 of your owners manual.

This is to be a pressure gauge, but I thought it was 1996 when /ford stopped using a pressure oil sending unit, and went to a single level sending unit ( same feed as the oil indicator light on the dash ).

At 86*F there should really be no oi pressure problem. If the needle is moving out side the range, and the oil light on the dash does not come on, then I would say cluster problem.

the again if you are not the original owner of the truck, the previous owner might have changed it to an older unit so it really was a pressure gauge. do you know if this is the case ?

Sorta looks like that but the teapot is above on the left side, not where it is in the picture. It also has a temeperature sign i think along with it.
I would say it is probally a cluster problem, because I check my oil constantly, and will change the oil this month. I really doubt the original owner changed it... but who knows.. Ill take a picture later if it helps..

Mine does this too, I thought it was the sending unit, or the wire going to it. I have one to replace it, just havent done it yet.

Cool, if you can take any pics on fixing it that would be great!
Its sometimes scary especially when it stays on L then i suddenly realize its ok and it bounces back up to the middle
