I want a key without a chip

Is there a way to change or reprogram the computer so I don't have to have a key with a chip in it. I cary several keys and I would like to have a key that is thin. Any thoughts?

you caan take one of your chipped keys, and zap strap it to the inside of your steering collum plastic as close to the ignition as posible and it just might be close enough to have the vehicle sense it

this is possible. i remember one of the other members doing this because he only had one key that was programmed and was to cheap to pay the dealer to reprogram the other ones. so he got a few cut and taped the coded one to the inside of the shroud.

Thanks for the input. I think I will try it. If it doesn't work I'm not any worse off.

Dumb question, do you have a remote start in the truck ?

I seem to recall a member doing some testing where the PATS bypass did the PATS enabling, and he used a regular key.

I cannot recall if it is a Code alarm / Ford type where the PATS bypass does not have power until the remote start tells it to ( he to remote start the truck, then use straight key )
or another brand, where the PATS bypass uses another key already coded to the truck, and is always active.

This is what I did with my wife's 98 Conturd this fall when I installed a new remote start in it. Instead of spending another $30 for a PATS bypass module, I just removed the antenna from around the cylinder, zip-tied the keyhead into the antenna, then mounted the assembly up under the dash. All the original PATS keys will work like normal (only the PATS keyhead is being read) plus I can used inexpensive blanks from now on.

Just a thought, if two pats keys are too close to the pats sensor antenna at the same time will it confuse the system.
