12V Winch Wiring Question
12V Winch Wiring Question
Can someone tell me if this can be hard wired into a 12v trailer lighting circuit?

1st you would want to use the trailer battery charge circuit, not the lighting circuit.
2nd, this circuit is rated at 11.5A, and I cannot find any specification on MAster Locks web site, as to what the AMp draw is for this, so you might want to find that out, before purchasing it.
The easy hook up for the trailer battery charge is to get a 7 pin head, and wire this to the power feeds to the winch, using the battery charge circuit and the ground ( ground is rated at 50 A ).

SSCULLY,
Thanks for the reply.. Well, I'm not to good with electrical stuff. Do you know where i could get a drawing of what your reffering to? If not, I guess i'll just stick with using the truck battery hook up.
Thanks,
RJ

I'm going to be mounting the winch inside an enclosed snowmobile trailer. It will be about 12 feet from the front of the truck when the trailer is connected. I'm using this to pull the snowmobile into the trailer when trying to load on pavement/blacktop. I have a studded snowmobile track. When I try to load on pavement, the track has nothing to grab so it slides and begins to tear up the driveway. I'm going to use the winch to pull the sled up just enough so the track can catch the track mat mounted on the inside of the trailer.

Else run some new 10 AWG cables from the battery to the rear of the truck. Warm makes a nice kit for the winch connector, might cost more then the winch itself.
Here is a pic of what Scully is referring to;
I would also check out any local battery/Starter/Alternator repair shop to see if they have a connector like this one. A 25 ft length of booster cable could be wired to he battery at the engine end then routed along the frame all the way to the rear of the truck. Put one of the connectors at the end of that then the other end to the wires coming out of the winch. I have a similar set up going to my 1200 amp inverter.
If you want to spend some cash you could purchase a deep cycle battery and mount it in the trailer. Use the battery line on the 7 pin connector to recharge the battery from the truck alternator.
