Second Battery
Second Battery
I have an '07. My plan is a battery isolator and a second battery. I want the extra battery to power off road lights, a winch, an air compressor, extra 12V outlets, and perhaps even an inverter.
Has anyone done this yet?
Any ideas on a good location for the second battery?

2nd bat.
I just did this, but the 2nd bat. was in a dog box, not on the truck per se.
It is actually a pain to do but can be done. I could not figure out where to locate the 2nd battery under the hood so that is why I put it in the dog box. Used an isolator and I ran 4G cable from the front to the back. Works well so far. If you want specifics let me know.

Well....
I was all set to run a second "BIG" battery for my upgraded stereo system. I figured, I've done it before, and it worked fine. But several of the car stereo gurus talked me out of it, because as they explained, a battery isolater will cause a drop in voltage to the secondary battery. Granted, this might only be .5 or .7 volts, but that's actually a pretty big difference, when your trying to do everything you can, to keep from dipping much below 13 volts.... and 14 plus is better.
If you stop and think about how an isolater is built, it stands to reason, if it needs heat sink fins, that means its going to lose some power through the form of heat energy.
But then, maybe it won't be as critical for your electrical items to get so close to 14 volts all the time, like it is for my amp.
Just some food for thought.
