My Key Switch ...
My Key Switch ...
My entry-key switch(?), the little black plastic thing with the "U", "UL", and red horn icon for the alarm, which my keys were on when I first purchased my 2001, just stopped opening the locks. I had to go to the new spare in order to open it.
I went to radio Shack and replaced the battery, but it didn't change anything as nothing happens. The key works, but the switch won't lock or unlock. Do these things just wear out with one having to go to the dealer to replace it, or is there some kind of programming needed once the battery is replaced?
How much are they roughly if they do require replacement?
Thank you very much.

* First of all, where is the non-operating module with the new battery at this time as I'm clicking from the "Off" to "On" position? Is this the module in the ignition switch at the time, or is it the spare good one that I am doing this back and forth clicking with?
* All this time, the door is open?
* Press the non-operating transmitter, or both transmitters, within 20 seconds of the vehicle starting? Is the door still open all this time?
Thanks again.
The module is in the vehicle, you do nothing with the module it works automatically. You have to leave the key in the ignition for this whole procedure. The trans mitter can be left on the ring with the key. It might be easier if you remove the transmitter from the key ring.
