Gauge cluster swap

Anyone know if a 2002 cluster with a tachometer will work in a 99 without the tach??

the gauge cluster itself will actually fit, but i believe you need to add in one wire to get the tach to work

I don't know if the HEC will transfer from the 99 to the 2002 cluster. This is wher the PATS info is stored, and without it, your truck will not start.

You would nee to have the HEC erased, and programmed with 2 new keys.

Thanks for the info, I probably wouldn't have thought about it until the truck didn't start and then started from scratch trying to figure out where it all went wrong. Might be more trouble than it's worth, I was hoping it might have been as simple as plugging into a different pre-existing connector.

if you have PATS disabled it is plug and play (minus mileage being correct)

im sure anything is possible. i swapped a marauder cluster (with tach) into my crown vic LX sport (no tach). it wasnt the easiest thing, but on the crown vic forums there was a big write up on the swap which required repinning the harness connectors. it was easy, but tedious...after all said and done, definitely worth it. it's nice having a tach. i cant remember what the back of the cluster looks like on my F150, but on the CV/MM it's just 2 bolts that hold the whole odometer gear into place. so that was a VERY simple swap. my CV has a PATS key & didnt have any problems with the MM cluster. now i know this is a completely different vehicle, but again, anyhting is possible. there is someone on the CV forum that has a mustang cluster installed into his grand marquis. good luck if you do everything.
