adding RPM on gauges?

all my stx has on the stock gauges (talking speed wise) is a huge mph in the center but no rpm.... just curious whats the importance of an rpm gauge? anyway had i decided to try and get another stocker (or aftermarket) with an rpm on it, would it be all that hard to get a little needle thing installed or would the price of it not even be worth it???

thanks

If you want a Tachometer, the easy way might be to add an after market one to the truck. Changing the gauge would require the dealer to reprogram the gauge for at least the PATS info, so the truck will start after the swap. The other problem if the millage on the cluster that you remove vs the one you install. The dealer can send the cluster out to have it programmed by the Ford Auto auth'd centers, and this woudl add to the cost of the gauge swap.

If you look Autometer and the likes have after market Tachometers, that you can add, taking the tach signal from the engine, and be totally DIY. The placement of this is the only question, it would not be in the factory cluster.
