Weird Electrical Symptoms

I have a 2005 Supercrew Lariat and I've been noticing some unusual things recently. When I start it up, the speedometer needle bounces rapidly and it takes a little while till the tach, gas gauge, etc to 'wake up' and come up from zero. Also, the info display returns to default and resets the trip odometer and mpg displays, the radio station has changed and the A/C is no longer on 'auto'. I don't know if these are early symptoms of a dying battery or alternator. So far it has only been difficult to start one time and the amp meter is showing normal. Any ideas on what might be going on here ?
