2000 F-150 V6 Battery Warning Light

I have a 2000 V6 and the battery after 8 years went out 2 days ago. So I went and bought a new battery, installed it and everything is ok.

Well, this morning when I start her up, the battery warning light is on. It is on at idle and all speeds. The charging gauge looks ok.

I guess the old weak battery maybe zapped my alternator?

I plan on checking the alternator output when I get home.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, my truck has 106K miles on it and I just started doing it's first maintenance.

Thanks, Les

Typically, and don't ask me why, if one thing like an alternator dies, something else happens too, starter, battery, or all and maybe new things. It just seems that way. I replaced my battery just prior to dying so maybe I saved myself a headache, but a year later, the alt. died. When it did, the truck idled higher, lights were dim, as it was rationing non essentials. I wouldn't be surprised if the diodes are shot on the alt. so start there. Autozone or somebody can test it, no?
