GT Start Button Mod

I was thinking about adding one of these available here, but I am not sure of which wires on the F-150 need to be spliced into as they are different colors than the Mustang for which the instructions were based on. Does anyone have more info on this or a wiring diagram?

Well sorry for the Bump, but I now have it installed, but I still have not been able to get info on the wiring. The instructions are written for a Late model Mustang, can anyone tell me what color wires to use in the F150? For the Mustang one is Green and the other is White.

Mustang Instructions:

STEP 23: Disconnect the ignition switch connector, referred to in Figure 14. There is a release tab for easy removal.

STEP 24: On the ignition switch connector, there is a GREEN wire on the far outside. You will need to cut this wire loose from the ignition switch connector. Attach this GREEN wire to either wire of the “ENGINE START” push-button pigtail; it does not matter which one.

Note: Failing to cut this GREEN wire from the connector, will still permit the vehicle to be started with the key.

STEP 25: On the opposite end of the GREEN wire in the ignition switch connector, there is a WHITE wire on the far outside. You will need to SPLICE into this wire with the remaining wire coming from the “ENGINE START” push-button pigtail. DO NOT CUT THIS WHITE WIRE!!!
Note: You may use the supplied Crimp-Lock connector, but for best results, it is recommended to solder this connection and Heat-Shrink or tape the exposed splice.

STEP 26: Once all of the above necessary connections have been made, re-attach the radio trim panel using the (6) screws that were removed upon disassembly.

STEP 27: Re-attach the battery cable.

STEP 28: Confirm that the vehicle is in Neutral or Park, and test the installation by starting the vehicle. You will need to turn the key to the ‘RUN’ position for the “ENGINE START” push-button to work.

I'd imagine it'd the same colors. However, that might make too much sense for Ford. I'd go to the dealer and ask the parts department to pull up a wiring diagram.

From the web site where I bought the switch:

"The Mustangs and the F-150s use the same circuits or functions with the ignition switch wiring, but they use completely different colors of wire. (Thank you very much FoMoCo ). So we pulled the wiring diagrams for the Mustang and the F-150 to cross-reference the wiring."

Si I am just assuming they are different.

I think so, haven't hooked it up yet, but I think you would splice into GRN/PPL and RED/BLU. Just haven't had the time lately.

I like the location of the button. It looks like it belongs there. Make a video of it in action when you get it working!

That looks sweet!

I have a question though, so now that that switch is wired in, can anyone jump in your ride and push the button and drive away? Do you have to have the key in the ignition for it to work? How does it work exactly?

I guess that is 3 questions that are somehow related?

It's my understanding that the key must be in the run position. So instead of turning the key all the way to crank it, you turn it to run, and push a button.

Exactly right, the key has to be in for it to start, I left my wires intact so you can still start it with the key as well, kind of a pointless mod other than it looks really cool.

Did you install yours in place of the lighter or in the 4x4 selector blank spot?

Post up some pics when you get a chance.

Cool, thanks, I'm 4x4 as well, so that is where mine would go as well.

FYI for those looking, search "ford start button" on ebay, and a bunch pop up, all around $110-$120.
