If it cranks over but dose not fire, clean your MAF sensor.

Sounds like a GEM problem. Check under the dash for any signs of the windshield leaking around the fuse panel.

If your check engine light comes on when the key is turned to the run position then the PCM is good.

there's a few things that could have happened man. unfortunately NONE of them look good. is your theft lift flashing? because of our trucks (i have an 02 that got the pcm erased accidently by autozone..) PATS system, there's a way to tell by the 'theft' flashing. i can't remember exactly what it was, but search around.

also, bad news man but i spent close to $800 for a new used one, reprogrammed and reinstalled in the truck. you also have to get your keys rescanned if it died... pm for more details if you need them.

when you first turn key to on position , the dash is dead just door ajar light on, and theft blinking fast, after 10-15 sec the guages start working, service engine soon comes on and theft light starts blinking a code like the old obd1
1 flash then 3 flashes it repeats this over and over, no leaking windshield, does the anti theft kill all of this?

my apoligies steve
i am new, and thought i should have posted in this section in the first place
truck is a crank no start
has factory theft system
have never had any dash dtcs
it is sounding more and more like the pats, because the fuel pump is not working, and all the connections to that look good

i would say it's looking more like your pcm in man. get it towed to the ford place and they can run diagnostics on it. you'd be suprised how EASY it is to fry those things. mine was doing the SAME thing. regardless you have to get it reflashed at ford, so go ahead and take her on over...

I was wanting that to be a last resort, but like you say if it is the pcm or the pats i don't have the tools to reprogram, only the dealer does. i guess they do things like that to stay in buisness. I was hoping it was a hidden short or something. driving a back up vehicle now. will take to dealer in a couple of weeks, let you all know how it turns out.

pull your old one and get the digits off of it and start looking around for a good used one..that's usually the CHEAPEST way out.. that's what i ended up doing.

Look in the OTHER thread you started.

It has information you need to read.

there's a relay if I am remembering correctly that might be out. I'll check for you. It would be cheaper than a new pcm.

i swapped the relays between the fuel pump and the pcm because they are the same, this was one of the first things i did, i don't see both of them being bad but i have seen stranger things, new ones only cost about $10 bucks each so I will pick up a new pair, does anyone know readings i should be getting from the socket? to see if there is a problem b4 it gets to the relay?
