Noises coming through JVC stereo
Noises coming through JVC stereo
I've got a 2000 F-150 Supercab 2WD and I installed an aftermarket JVC CD player with Sirius and Ipod connections. It seems that when the stereo is in Ipod mode the engine's frequency is picked up by the stereo and causes a high pitched whine in the speakers, even if there's not music being played. I figure it's the engine because when the RPMs go up, so does the whine. I'm not sure if it does it in AM/FM mode, CD mode, or Sirius mode because the stereo stays in Ipod mode all the time. I can't remember the model number of the stereo, but I'm not sure if that would matter. I also have an Audiobahn amp powering 2 Audiobahn 10" subs under the back seat. What would cause this and what could I do to fix it? Thanks!
What you've got is some radio frequency interference, commonly abreviated RFI, being picked up through your wiring. Some questions to answer: Are your connections shielded? Is the main unit grounded well? What was your set-up prior to the the JVC install? Factory? Did you do the swap out, or have it done by an auto sound shop?
Does the level of the interference change if you move your Ipod player around? Are you using an external DC power connection going to the Ipod? If a shop did the install, put that monkey on their back. Or is the RFI just now showing up after several months/years of use. If that's the case, then you've got other issues....
Bottom line: there is a whole big mess of unknowns that need to be identified.

Well, that helps a little and can get me started. I did the install myself and except for the pigtails coming out of the back of the stereo, which I purchased when I got the stereo, it's all stock. I realized today that when music is playing, you can't really hear it, but if I pause the music it's really noticable. Also, if the volume is turned up or down, the volume of the sound also goes up or down, so it seems as though the interference is being picked up by the stereo itself. Thanks for your reply.
