dead battery and clicking. help me out!

ok so my truck sat for about 2 weeks and when i went to start it it was dead. not one single thing worked. i thought that was strange since i have a a 3 month old yellow top. so i jumped it and let it run for about twenty min. shut it off and it started right back up. so i thought ok. so a week later its dead again.jump started it and let it run. the next morning it had some juice but not enough to start. so something is draining it.

i thought it was with my sound system so i ripped it all out. wires and everything.fuse in the back of my cd player was blown. now i have the clicking sound from the fuse box. i think its the pcm relay. if i turn the switch for my head lights it quits. but then when i turn the **** back off it starts clicking again.

i checked all the cables going from my battery to the starter and alternator. everything looked ok. i dont have a voltmeter to check and see if its my 3 month old optima. there was also a fuse in the engine compartment blown called a power point, dont know what that does. sorry for writing a book but anybody have any ideas?

Disconnect the battery next time you will go away, and when you come back connect it up and see if the engine starts. If it starts Look for alarm, radio, lights, something is draining your battery
If not take it back to the store, and tell them that you have a dead cell in it
Hope this helps

well i dont have an alarm and the whole stereo system is ripped out at the moment. i cant see how my lights would all of the sudden start draining it. its frustrating cause theres so much electrical stuff where something can go wrong.

Maybe you have a light underthe hood that is staying on, or maybe you dome light is coming on once in awhile.Just knew some one with a Town Car and he keep having a battery go dead, repleaced battery and then alt, and it still did it.Well one night his neighbor walked by his car, and his dome light was one, turns out there was a short in the headlight switch dimmer unit, and after awhile the dome light whould just turn on.They changed the switch out and it has been fine

ok so i just went back outside to jump start my truck. right when i hooked up the jumper cables the light under the hood came on the bell started dinging and the cluster was bright with all the lights on. i tried turning it over and nothing. now even with the jumper cables hooked up nothing is on. no under the hood light or dome light. i jiggled the jumper cables nothing. i unhooked the ground and power from my battery then hooked it back up and put the jumper cables on and there is nothing. what is wrong with this damn thing!

Maybe the jumper box went dead after you tried to crank it? Also check your ground cable. When you do get the truck running you need to do a parasitic draw test to see where you have your battery drain. But before that you might want to go to autozone and have them test the battery.

I just had a car the other day where the battery voltage was good but car wouldn’t start. I cleaned the batt terminals and tested the alternator. Battery had a bad cell. Replaced and car ran great.

I had the same problem...... Worth checking into.

Have you had the recall done for the cruise control? If not do it immediately! I thought the same and tried everything under the sun until I came out one morning and smoke was pouring from the engine compartment. The pressure switch for the cruise is hot all the time, If the pressure switch leaks form the master cylinder it shorts out killing the battery and possibly causing a fire. I went through two batteries before I found out the problem.
Good Luck..
