Moonroof OJT Required???????

Hi Folks,

Just acquired a 2005 F-150 Super Crew. Traded away my 99 7.3L Power Stroke after I had to take out a loan to fill the fuel tank, diesel in this area is running $4.94 - $4.99 gal and I sold my travel trailer and no longer need a puller. Nice little one-owner truck with 13,250 miles on it.
But I am stumped and need some OJT on the Moonroof Controls pictured below.

Get into truck and start it up with window closed,
push (1) and nothing happens,
push (2) and nothing happens,
push (C) and nothing happens,

push the rear pointing arrow and hold it down and it slides completely open,
jog the rear pointing arrow and it opens until you release it then stops, so you can jog it to several open positions.

push the forward pointing arrow with the window open and it closes completely
push the forward pointing arrow with the window closed and it jogs to three or four vent positions i.e.: the back of the window tilts up.
push the forward pointing arrow with the window in a vent position and the window closes completely.

with the window completely in the open position (all the way back) and push the (C) button and it moves to the completely closed position.

My question is what the heck are the (1) and (2) buttons for or do I have a bad control?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ron

im gonna take a stab at this and say they are memory buttons with the "C" as a clear memory button.

adjust the window so its barely open and hold 1 for 10 secs or until a beep is heard (i really dont know if a beep will sound). open it a little more and repeat except hold button 2.

now close the sunroof and push a button. i have no idea if this will work but worth a try.

im gonna agree with chief...its either what he said (basically presets for your moonroof so you can touch a button and get the roof to open to a preset spot) or those are garage door opener buttons... but im betting on the first option

That’s the reason I asked the question in this post. I do have an owners guide but it only refers to a controller with one rocker switch and does not speak about the five-switch controller that is installed in my truck.

chiefFX4 you were spot on. The (1) and (2) buttons are for setting open positions. Open moon roof to a desired position, press and hold (1) for a period of time and it locks in that position. The same is true with (2). The (C) is for complete closure form any open position. I did not hear any tone signifying that it accepted the settings but I wear hearing aids and if it is a high pitched tone I cant hear it.

Thanks a bunch for your kind assistance; you are a true Gentleman and a Scholar a Judge of Fine Women and Good Beer.

I have never seen that kind of switch before.....Could of the moon roof been an after market install?....or the switch broke and they replaced it with a non OEM one?

I just had a look at my neighbors 05 Explorer to compare his Moonroof to the one in my truck. He purchased his Explorer new and the Moonroof is exactly like the one in my truck, same window shade, same glass, same frame and hardware and his has a single rocker switch control. From looking at the switch control in my truck it appears to me that it is a 100% Ford factory installation. But I still find it strange that the owner’s manual only refers to a single rocker switch control.

But I also don’t think that it is a replacement switch because it has a few more functions than one with the single rocker switch. This leads me to believe that it also has some different software than the single rocker switch. Take a look at the pictures below and tell me what you think.

After market Moonroof installation or a non OEM control switch - - - - I don’t think so.

I have to agree it appears to be an after market roof. The roof buttons in your case should be gray in color to match interior and you should only have one button with a recessed dimple on the open side and smooth on the close side.
Look at the roof itself, it will be easy to to tell if its not factory, you cannot re-stamp a roof panel and bend all the metal edges to look oem, you most likely will have some sort of trim molding around the hole that was cut to hid where the sawzaw cut the hole.
You neighbors truck may to have an aftermarket sunroof installed, most dealers will install them before the car goes on the lot for sale and knock the price up a bit.
To further back up my statement the sunroof shade "pull handle" is black in the picture you have, oem shades are color matched, tan, gray or black with the interior color

To answer the other questions posted. The driver presets on a Lariat are found on the side of the seat, not the roof and there are only 2, driver 1 and driver 2, not A, B & C
The Homelink is also incorporated into the sun visor not the void between the dome lights.

Hope this helps with your roof questions. If all else fails go back to the dealer and have those smart salesmen tell you how its done.

Hello again folks,

Well my mystery has been solved; it is not a Ford factory Moonroof. Check the link below what it is. I took it to the Trim Shop that installed it for the Ford Dealer when it was new to get a set of operating & maintenance instructions. They checked out the operation and found that sometimes the presets loose their memory so I take it in Monday for repair. The window is under lifetime warrantee so no cost to me. By the way I was told at the Trim Shop that Webasto makes the Sunroofs/Moonroofs for Ford ????

Again thanks for you help and patients.
