Trailer light Q
Trailer light Q
all the lights on the truck work fine.
When I hook up the trailer, everything works except the right Turn signal, brake light.
I got out the volt meter, and narrrowed it down to the truck. I first suspected the plug (7 way round) as I've backed into a few things during plow season Pulled the wire to the plug, and no power. all the wires look good.
There are 2 fuses for the tow lamps (left and right) under the hood, and both "looked" fine, but I havn't checked them on a meter yet. I plan to replace the fuses today just in case one is bad, and I can't see it (was about 11:30 last night, and got tired of messing with it.
Any electrical gurus on this board have any ideas? Is there any type of relays that would controld the right side turn signal/brake lamp only? I can't believe I have a bad wire between the fuse box, and the plug?

On the 2000, the trailer brake/turn lamps are isolated from the truck's system ONLY by fuses (no relays).
Underhood:
Fuse F19 - Right
Fuse F20 - Left
Check for power at F19 when the brake lights are on. If present and the fuse is good, then you do have an open circuit between the fuse panel and the rear bumper.
Dark Green wire. I'd trace it backwards from the 7-pin.

did you check your plug with the brakes on? try pulling the bulb out and wiping the non lighting end off then put it back in.
this worked for me when the same bulb went out on my trailer. funny as i had backed it into another trailer one night on that same side.

found the problem. Looks like when I had it in to be worked on, someone cut into the wire harness to repair another wire. They cut into the green wire, allowing it to corrode, it basically fell apart when I started checking it.
got that fixed, but now I have another problem.
I decided to throw a new 7 way reciever plug on the back of the truck cause the original was cracked, and the cover was broke. Problem is the color codes are different. Can anyone tell me me the What each of the 7 wires is for?
