Cruise not working at all
Cruise not working at all
I just discovered that my cruise isn't working at all. Lights on or off. The lights on my climate control went out a week or so ago and I can live with that, but I don't know if they are connected. 2001 F150 xlt 5.4triton extended cab 4wd. Any help would be great as I run the highway a lot. Thanks.
have you been to a dealer recently? there is a recall on the cruise deactivation switch. The interim fix is to disconnect the switch. Prevents fire and disables cruise. The part to fix the problem should be in stock now, so if that was all then you could get the cruise control working again.
No I haven't been. It has been working just fine for years, then one day nothing. I did replace my alternator within the past 2 weeks or so and can't remember if I used it since then or not. I really don't want to have to take it to the dealer if it is something I can trouble shoot and fix. I have a decent knowledge of cars and motors and gears and such, but our race cars don't have cruise control. If they did maybe we would be more successful. Anyway thanks for the tip. I just may have to take it somewhere.
DO THE RECALL! Failure to do so can cause your truck to burn to the ground at any time without any additional warning.
Failure of the cruise has been noted in MANY reports as a precursor to the bonfire.
Immediately, go out to your truck and disconnect the harness connector from the switch mounted on your brake master cylinder. Inspect the connectors for fluid. If found, leave disconnected until the recal can be performed.
If dry, the switch still may have failed internally causing the cruise to malfunction. While this is not, in itself, a fire hazard, it is an annoyance. Verify the switch is showing continuity. If open, it is defective and will cause the cruise to not function.
Tip: If the switch connector is "wet" when you go in for the recall, you get a new switch. Otherwise you only get the add-on fused harness.

Please do what project says.
The cruise went out on my 97, and thought "oh, thats wierd, i don't use it anyway, get to it when I can."
My truck was a burned-up lump of crap a month later.

Thanks guys. I did disconnect the switch. I had no idea it was so imperitive to do this stuff right away. When I disconnected the switch it "appeared" to be dry, however, I think there is some moisture hiding somewhere that the dealer will have an easier time finding.
Thanks again you all just saved another Ford from the inferno.

Proceed directly to the dealer, do not pass go, do not collect $200, and may god have mercy on your soul if you dont do it tomorrow morning...
srsly, that one part has burned up thousands of F150's, and a few houses in the process.
