Need help desperately!!!!!
My 2000 F-150 5.4 won't start, odometer is reading dashes "-----" and the theft light is flashing.
It was intermittently stalling & not starting for a few weeks and got progressively worse. At this point it was just not starting, I didn't have the odometer problem or the theft light. I replaced the Fuel Pump Relay (no help) then the PCM relay (no help). Then I changed the fuel pump, and the odometer thing and the flashing light started all of a sudden. Also it occasionally just has the windshield wipers come on once or twice out of nowhere. I talked to a friend at a dealership and he thinks that my key has dropped its code or the PATS module has died.
I can't afford to replace either yet but when I do I'll let you know if this works. I saw some posts with this very specific combo of things on some other forums, but no one has a solid fix that I have seen. If any of you have anything I would appreciate it.
The dealership has now had it for 2 1/2 weeks and is stumped. They think it might be the PCM shorted internally but aren't sure. They seem pretty sure that it isn't the PATS module now. Also, it doesn't download any codes when it dies. Does ANYONE have a real fix for this?
Thanks,

go under your dash left of the steering column. Look closely at the bottom of the interior fuse panel. You're looking for signs of water intrusion. If there's a leak from the windshield or cowl, the first place it drips is on the fuse panel. If that's the case, then just replace the fuse panel and swap the GEM module onto the new panel. Don't forget to take care of the water leak.

Sounds like a water leak to me also......thats what I would check first.
This has been a known problem.
It's fixed
Got it fixed. Turns out the guy who owned the truck before me had a superchip installed. The chip took a crap (shorted internally I guess) and caused the PCM to overheat and shut off. It wouldn't download any codes at all at first. Then the dealer got a different tester and it downloaded as a completely different vehicle (an 88 Taurus or something). They looked in the PCM and found the Superchip and pulled it out and no more problems.
Something to check on guys.
