ignition(key)switch

How do I remove the ignition switch in order to remove the top cover of the steering column on a 2001 F150?

if you look under column you will sell 1/4 inch hole that looks like it goes into keyswitch us a o-ring pick and push the detent ball up while turning the key to on position when you fell the ball push in key switch will slide out why do you want to remove

Need to remove so I can get top cover off of steering column. Trying to get to wires coming down through shifter.....looking for a possible short that is causing fuse to blow everytime i hit the OD button to turn off overdrive.
Do you know if there is an easier way to do this...or something different i should be doing?
Thanks.

cover put key back in

only way to get keyswitch out is that way very easy can have mine out in about 15 seconds use flash light look in hole you will see steel ball push on that while turning key it will push in slightly and then key barrel will pull out remove cover then put key back in so you can turn ign off if you have problem i can take pics and email to you
