Gear Needle in Cluster Stuck
Gear Needle in Cluster Stuck
Not really sure where to post this, but here we go. I have a 2003 5.4 L Scab XLT. Today, all of a sudden while parking, I put the transmission in PARK, and the needle in the cluster slides left from P to 1 all the way on the right . WTF? I traced the shifter wire from the transmission all the way along the frame, up into the engine bay, and into underneath the dash area, and everything was fine. I did not pull my dash apart and look at the gear selector cable behind the cluster b/c it was starting to get dark, and I have no garage. Is it possible that it could have somehow snapped or popped out?
All the gears work fine, PRND21. The needle just stays stuck to the right of 1 no matter what gear I shift into.
I also installed a 3'' body lift a couple weeks back. It instructs to install an auxiliary bracket on the transmission to complement the stock one. I did not do so, and am wondering if this may have been the cause... Needless to say, today after this incident, I installed it. Even so, I drove a couple weeks w/o the new bracket, and my friend has done so for over a year on his truck (same year as mine,) and he offroads heavily w/o issues. I also heard something about a wheel you can turn to adjust the calibration on the needle in the cluster. Please tell me if this exists on an 03, and instruct me on how to proceed from here...

ok, today, i determined that the cable wasn't snapped. the little plastic wheel was turned almost completely in one way, and in the process of attempting to turn it, i disconnected the bottom portion of the cable. where does it reconnect to? does anyone have any pics/ advice?
