2004 F150 airbag code 42

I have a 2004 F150 and I get a code 42 on the airbag system. I know this is a front impact sensor. Where is it located and what does it look like. Is this something I have to take to Ford to have fixed? Or can I do this.

Impact sensor is located on the vertical support in front of the radiator. It is located just under the ambient temperature sensor. If you are still under warranty I would take it back to the dealer for replacement no sense in paying for something that could be free. If not , you can replace it your self. It is simply plug and play. Just disconnect the battery before you do anything other wise you will have a BIGGER problem. These sensore have a tendency to get corroded at the terminals. Bob

Code 42

I checked the impact sensor and found it was cracked just below the plug-in. The whole sensor was corroded. I ordered one from Ford. $46.00. I was expecting more. I won't get it until Wed. but it should cure the problem.

The trouble code was given to me by the truck. Once I started it, the airbag light would blink 4 times, pause and then blink 2 more times, then there would be a longer pause then start the sequence over. Then stay on all the time.

Air Bag Sensor 4-2

I just replaced the sensor $ 51.00 and the wire harness $ 34.00 from dealer both were corroded at the connection. The only thing is you have to splice the wire harness into the original wires. not that big of deal.

Airbag light 42

Hi,

I own a 2004 F-150 and have the same 42 airbag code on. I wanted to check the sensor. I disconnected the battery and removed the bolt retaining the sensor. When I tried to disconnect the sensor, it broke in two parts. My question is : Can I try to reconnect the battery and use the truck without problem or will it cause the deployment of the airbags if I receonnect the battery and start the truck ?

Regards,

Martin

With the airbag sensor disconnected, you can still run the truck but your airbag system is offline, same as it was when the fault light was on before your diagnostic work.

Is airbag sensor blowing the fuse to my PCM?

Wow, I am having the same problem with my 04 f150. Another thing is sometimes the fuse to the CPM blows out and my programmer doesn't work. Do you think the airbag sensor has something to do with this?

I'm having the same issue. Bought the new sensor today but I am not sure it is the same. Shape is the same but the number on the outside is a little different. They both have the number 14B006 on them. Is it safe to use this one?

I got a secuence of beeps 5 beeps 5 times usually every half hour of driving time. The light of the srs on top of the radio does not work and its driving me insane. Its the light that turns on or off depending on if a passenger is sitting. Also this started when a thief ripped out mu radio and messed up the console. I bought the light but i domt know where to run the wires to patch this since it seems something is not connecting. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you are talking about a 2004 -2008 My truck ( profile not completed ), you have what appears to be 2 things wrong.

1. The 5x5 beeping is the SRS lamp in the cluster is out, and needs to be replaced.

2. Once you replace this you will get a LFC ( light Flash Code ) that will show you what else is wrong. The LFC I would imagine is going to point to the broken PAD ( Passenger Airbag Deactivation ) lamp, but you need to get the bulb in the cluster working 1st to confirm this.

This is assuming this is not the seat belt ding, do you have the driver's seat belt on when this is happening ?

If you turn the key from off to run ( do not start ) does the SRS lamp illuminate ?

so on my truck the srs will not illuminate during the cluster lamp check. It will come on every few weeks and blink 4-2. My cruise control went out the same time the srs lamp first came on are they tied together by the computer somehow? My srs lamp appears to be an led soldered to the cluster board. Do I replace the led or the whole cluster? I need the 5x5 beeping to stop!!!! Lol. Thanks in advance
