Need help plz.......

OK I Installed some fog lights to the rear of my truck..For added light backing up I wired it to my wire feeding the back up lights ...After i hooked up the white wire and had the light mounted to the frame of my hitch ..Had wife turn switch on and put it into reback...boom lights worked fine..Ok i didnt hook up the ground thought i was grounding out to the frame.. OK now the next day my abs and brake light came on on the dash as if the ebrake was on..so i found its a blown fuse no biggie..changed fuse ..very next day light on again..Now my ? is by me not wiring up the ground is it feeding back or grounding it self out though the fuse box or what plz help ...I really dont wont to add a switch inside my truck just for these lights.....??????

Well, maybe the lights are overloading the circuit. If you think it is a ground problem, you could install a diode into the power side.

I wouldn't suggest it, the factory harness has the proper fuse installed from the factory, a higher rating can cause a meltdown. The best way to go would be to use a relay, but it would bequire a 12v source. But I see you're from hickory,(i'm from boone) you ever go out and cruise up the strip on the weekend?

Did you hook these up to the truck's backup lights or to the 7 pin trailer tow adapter's backup circuit ?

The reason I ask, is the truck's backup circuit will not take a 2 A load too well, let alone the load these lights are adding.

I did a test with some Truck-Lite backup LED lights, just to have the info ( was installing to the 7 pin adapter backup circuit ). The truck's backup circuit woudl run a single 1 A backup lamp OK, but adding the second 1 A light, both lights dimmed ( would not drive a 2A load ).

You are better off using the backup circuit in the 7 pin trailer tow adapter, or using the truck's backup circuit to trigger a relay.

This is too much load on the circuit, and it is possible that you will have problems with the DTR sensor later ( the part that switches on the backup lights ).

Here is one thread on the topic :

Here is another method, draw using the EVTM pages as a ref, using the trailer tow battery charge circuit ( 30A fuse ? ) as a ref :
