power seat install
power seat install
ok, i am trying to install a power driver's seat in my 03 fx4/xlt. so far, the truck has had the wiring in it for every electrical mod i have done. i have added autolamps, the driver's door keypad, signal mirrors, and the adjustable pedals. the wiring has been preinstalled in the truck for every one of these mods.
however, i pulled the driver's seat in an attempt to find the power seat harness. i was unable to find it. i traced the harness that was currently in the seat, (this is not the one i need, i looked at my friend's seat, and he had two) and it routes underneath the console. is it possible that the power seat harness is taped away somewhere around there? i did not pull it out, as it was starting to rain when i was doing this. everything i have read indicates that the wiring should be there. this should be especially true as some xlt's came from the factory w/ power seats. i really need your guy's advice, as i already have these parts sitting at my house, and would hate to have to send them back.

yes, upload a picture of what you got, and i will tell you what it is... if you don't have the proper wiring, it can be ran. i am in the process of running wire right now. i will post a write up when i get everything done.

well, an update for everybody... first and foremost, this is for the old body style, 97-03 i have no idea if this would work on the 04-08 F-150's. contrary to everyone else's opinion on this site, a power seat swap can be accomplished w/o a total seat swap. everyone told me i needed to find another seat that came from the factory with the power track and swap it w/ my old, entire seat. THAT WOULD BE FALSE! I have just completed tearing down my driver's seat with the manual track, and transferring the seat to a new, ford oem part electric track. it is not an easy swap, there are a lot of little sensors, connectors, brackets, etc, but it can be done w/ patience, and common tools. note: i haven't fooled with the heated seated option, that would probably require some sort of additional heating element. i live in FL
Additionally, for the swap, you will need a power seat switch, button, will either have to find, or fab up the seat harness, and may have to run wiring. I have fabbed up the harness, and am currently trying to figure out where to tap the hot into for the wiring i had to run. if anyone knows, your input would be greatly appreciated.
this swap also leads me to believe that for a passenger power seat swap that one would only require the track as well. i have not personally done this, this is only a theory.

well, i almost got this wiring figured out. it turns out i had everything wired correctly, but i have a short in one of my wires, which sucks b/c it is brand new wiring. it is causing a fuse to blow, the one mentioned below. maybe i got it pinched under something? in any case, the proper factory way of wiring up a power seat for a truck not-so-equipped, is not run two wires over to the passenger kick panel, and onto the same fuse that the adj. pedals runs off of, a 30A located under the hood fusebox. even if your truck didn't originally come equipped w/ the adj. pedals, the fuse will still be there, as well as the wiring behind the kick panel you need to join the new, power seat wiring to. will post again when i get the short fixed, and the seat actually moving.
it also sucks that since this is the older body style f-150, that no one seems to know how to do such a mod, aside saying that "you need to already have the wiring, and a new seat w/ the track, and it must be a direct plug and play" Bull*****!
I had to figure out everything basically on my own, scouring through the instruction manual, ford part numbers, etc, on how to make this work. I will also post the ford part numbers for anyone else interested in performing this mod, to save someone all this frustration i am going through. sorry for the long rant...

I have a 2002 F-150 XL and I'm picking up a set of 2001 expedition seats this weekend. The driver's seat is power and it has the switches on it and the wiring harness on the seat. Since my truck is an XL it's probably not wired for this. Can you tell me what I need to do to get power to these seats? I have my own ideas but since you've already done it, I'd like to know what you know.

1. Don't know if it goes to the fuse panel
2. Could be the wrong size wire, and not handle the load on the power seats.
Check the fuse panel slot for the power seats, chances are there is a pin on 1 side, and nothing on the other side.
If you can get a fuse panel cheap at a bone yard, you would be able to to release the fuse slot side, and install it in the correct slot, to run to your own wiring.
If you don't want to go to that length, there is always the fused circuit from the battery route.
Power seats are beyond the load ratting on the add-a-fuses so that is out as an option.
