Transmission Range Sensor/Instrument Cluster Issues

Hello everyone, new to the site here but hoping to find a solution to an issue im having with reverse lights on my 1998 F-150 Lariet 5.4L,i was getting a code for transmission range sensor circuit malfunction, which is also causing my back up lights not to work,so i changed out the sensor had the code cleared and now the code has emerged once again, i have attempted to test it by putting the truck in reverse while moving the trans range sensor from one side to the other to see if at any point it will send a signal to the reverse lights, and it still will not work..i believe the sensor is calibrated correctly, however i would like to test for voltage at the connection to the sensor as well as the pcm when put in reverse to see if it even attempts to close the circuit for the reverse lights, but i dont know which pins or wires to test for this, and i cant find detailed diagrams of the connection to the trans range sensor or pcm to determine which pin/wire does what, i suspect there is a short somwhere but not sure where to begin...on another note i am also having a problem with the illumination with my instrument cluster in that it lights perfectly on the left side, but as it transissions to the right side of the cluster the lights get dimmer thru the middle and even dimmer as it gets to the right side of the cluster, however all the instruments work perfectly, the cluster it has now had been changed out because the old one had very dim lights across the board, and appeared that all the instruments had been subjected to a voltage spike due to the fact that all the instr. were jacked up about 50% higher than they should have been, which is why i changed it out...i dont know if the problem with the trans range sensor and inst. cluster are related, but any help would greatly really be appreciated, thanks to everyone LKH
