Late Model 1999 Fog Lights
Late Model 1999 Fog Lights
I decided to get some cheap $20 Wal-Mart fog lights for the heck of it, and I was wondering if anyone else installed them or something similar to this. I still gotta figure out how I can get the wires through the firewall, hook them up to power, and where to run the wiring (so basically everything
). I am going to get one of my friends (who's done something like this before) to help me, but if you have any tips ahead of time, I'd appreciate that too. I searched beforehand, but it seems like all of the dozens of threads I viewed were either not of the late model or the late model with OEM fog lights.
Here's a photo of the mock-up. Yeah, that thing under the license plate on the ground is a 12 volt gel battery (it's 7Ah compared to the 80Ah Die-Hard I got in the truck) that I was using to power the lights for mock-up.

Find your self an old Solid mast antenna CUT off the ball on the tip.
Electric tape your wires to the end and start fishing it through!!
Have your buddy guide it up the firewall... You'll be in good shape!
My 2001 had a fresh air intake ( rubber flap ) that was above the throttle cable through the fire wall. I used this for getting wires back and forth to the cab.
Take a look from the cab side, up high on the firewall, with a flash light.
Don't know if this was int eh '99 MY truck or not, but worth a look.

I installed fog lights on my truck and instead of fishing wired through the firewall for a switch I wired my fog lights to come on with my parking lights.
I ran a wire with a in-line fusible link from the battery through an ice cube relay to the foglights, I spliced a wire into the +12vdc wire that goes to the left front parking light (side marker) and ran it to the + side of the relay coil then ground the other side of the coil and your done.
I like having the fogs on with the running/parking lights plus when they are wires this way you cant leave them on accidentally.

If you still want to go through the firewall, if you pull the carpet and sound mat down on the driver side behind the brake pedal you will find a rubber grommet that plugs the hole for the clutch slave cylinder.

This was on my 2001, don't think it is you, it might not have been there on your MY truck.
Pull it back and take a look.

Okay, got 'em on today! I ended up cheating and running the wires through the doorjam behind the front fender. But the wires don't exit the truck at all. The only way you can tell is if you stare at the crack between the door and the fender for a good while and see a small red and small white line.
