Keyless Entry

Before I spend a bunch of money on a mechanic, I was wondering if anyone can help me with my keyless entry. I have the factory code and have tried everything, but I can't get the doors to unlock. I can lock them that's it. I've tried entering the numbers slow, I've tried entering them fast. The keypad lights up when I hit the first digit but nothing happens after the code is entered. I went through the manual but still nothing. Any ideas would be great.

on my dads truck 1 of the numbers didnt work well the 5 u would have to press it really hard in order to make it register. try going through all 10 numbers on the pad press each number in the entire key pad individually. check each number for the light to turn on and offif one button doesnt light the pad up then thats the bad one. hopefully this helps

Quick test :

Open the truck with the RKE or key, so it is unlocked.

Shut the door and press the 7/8 & 9/0 at the same time.

Do the doors lock ?

Is there anyway to reset the code without having the original code, or is there some way of getting the code by calling a dealer with my vin?
I just bought the truck and the used car dealer where I bought it had no idea how to get the code.

I tried pressing each button and the 1/2 button doesnt light up the keypad. Any ideas on how I might be able to fix this myself or do I have to replace the whole door handle.

You can just replace the keypad itself. Here is the part# 4L3Z14A626AAA You can reuse your handle. I get all my stuff from www.getfordparts.com they are very helpful and the cheapest as far as new oem parts go.

My son gave his code to his girlfriend. Then, they broke up. She now regularly gets into his truck and takes things, and leaves things too. I know he cannot change the master code. How can he disable the keypad? Can he just pull the door panel and unplug it? Or, does it have a seperate fuse he can pull? Any ideas would help. His is getting quite a collection of odd things.

You can ask the dealer if they will get the factory code from the BSM / VSM, but most want 1 hr shop time to do it, YMMV.

The other way is to pull the rear seat and read the factory code on the sticker on the BSM / VSM.

Here are some directions that I put together from members here that have removed the rear seat back already.

Good luck, either way you go

Be careful here guys... Are we dealing with an '04, or an '04 Heritage model? It makes a HUGE difference...

Profile shows Trim : FX4 Body : Supercab

might be my mistake, thought the '04 Heritage did not come in FX4 nor SCab format. Could be my mistake.

Sorry got hung up this AM, after the post to metcalfe.

To disable the key pad, my 2001 XLT SCrew had a loop back plug of some sort in it when I installed the key pad.

Might be able to just un plug it in the door, but you will need to test the RKE and power door locks, to make sure they still work correctly

Remove the door panel, and remove the front speaker, and you should see where it is connected through the mounting hole for the speaker.

Maybe check the bone yards for a XLT in 2001+ MY, without a key pad, to see if the loop back plug is in them, to install in your son's truck ??

good luck

OK... on the '04, it'll be stored in the Body Security Module. It'll also be on a sticker affixed to the outside. Search a bit on here and you'll find a how-to that explains how to find it yourself.

For TXCWright, you have two options: Unplug the keypad (which will disable it) or have someone swap the BSM. You may need to have that done at a dealership, as they may need to upload the configuration data from the original one and load it onto the replacement... I'm not sure on the '04s and the service manual isn't specific on that one. Worst case, figure an hour's labor to do that.

I took the guess on TXCWright that it was the truck in the profile, could be a bad idea on my part.

RAP / CSM I thought was a direct swap out.
GEM connections are for Door ajar input, and illuminated entry pins.
Then there is the DLC pin for diagnostics, which is circuit 70 / light blue w/ white wire.
RAP is build dates 2-OCT-00 and newer.
CSM is build dates after 2-OCT-00.

TXCWright can you provide some details on your son's truck, if it not the one in the profile ?

Also, that is something else you can surf the bone yard for, the correct build date RAP / CSM for your truck. might be able to pick it up cheap ??
