4x4 High Indicator Light

2004 F150 - When I switch to 4x4 high my indicator light on the dash does not come on. I know the bulb is not out, because it lights up when ignition is turned on. The transfer case locks in and 4x4 works fine. The 4x4 low indicator works fine. Before I start digging around behind the dash or replacing switches, I thought I would see if anyone had an answer to this.

Don't bother doing any 'digging' until you learn whats involved.
There is a GEM module involved that needs correct inputs from several sources before it will turn the lamp on.
Could be the contacts in the motor operation for 4H down on the rear of the trans.
If you get into 4H but no lamp, that's a good place to start, not behind the dash.
Since 4L works, it's not the circuit from lamp to GEM module.
I won't say it's not the first switch position, but unlikely, if it does do the 4H shift.
You need circuit discription and wire info to go at it without guessing.
Not trying to be hard a88 but to let you know what your in for.

Thanks for the help, sounds like it may be more than I bargained for. If I decide to try fixing it myself I will start at the transfer case.
