Power Mirror Alignment

2000 F150
Short time ago power mirrors quit. I've been adjusting them by hand accompanyed by a plastic/snapping/ratcheting sound. The fuse is good.
Yesterday after readjusting them again (kids play Basketball in the driveway) the right one started working but not the left. I thought I remember reading on this forum something about recentering or aligning the mirrors. Using the search function I am unable to find anything even close. At the moment I am running with the theory(s) that the mirror(s) are (1) at their adjustment limits (2) off track (3) door mirror adjustment switch partially inop (4) just don't know .

If it's (1) how do I recenter/align ? Once working again do they need to be
recentered?
If it's (2) put them back on track . Even the inop one still makes that sound
when I manually adjust it.
If it's (3) how do I take the switch out of the door molding to clean or check?

As a general rule should I avoid manually adjusting the mirrors (until this is fixed) as after every car wash (or Basketball game) I'm back to looking at everything but what I want to out of my mirrors.

Sidenote question : I didn't know where to post this, Electrical Systems, Other Body, etc. Can we post the same question in more than one section or is that a no no ?

I have to add: Is it just me that goes Ape when people post to the forum and title their question with just HELP, F150,NEED HELP, PLEASE HELP, etc?
Please state the subject of your question in the title !!!!

I had a similar issue when I bought my 01. The right mirror kind of worked and the left mirror did not work at all. I received a suggestion to buy a $5 can of electrical contact cleaner, pop the mirror switch out of the door with a screwdriver, take it apart, spray it with cleaner, let it dry, and then reassemble and try. That process resolved all my mirror problems with about 20 minutes of work and has been working fine since. I suggest that cheap method before trying anything more involved.

My 97 has this with the drivers side mirror. I adjust it differently when towing and a couple years ago it quit adjusting left-right. Still went up down.

I changed the switch, and tested a bit with a meter while I was in there. Still did not work.

Then one day it worked again, and for a while.

Then it quit.

I kind of pushed on the mirror and it moved, and then the motor worked again.

After looking at a broken one from my kids Explorer, it should not be a problem to adjust it by hand, and it will work again for awhile.

I would do this before I changed the mirror.
