Cruise Control Problem
Cruise Control Problem
Hello all, I am having an issue with the cruise not working on my 97 f150. It has had the recall done on it in early 2006 and was working fine on wed. and then on thurs. it just wouldnt come on.
All fuses are good under the dash and I even checked the 2 amp in line fuse thats is on the new plug from the recall. Any ideas on where to look now?

My previous truck was a 97 f-150 and I had the same problem. I had checked all the fuses and nothing. It ended up being the brake pressure switch on top front of master cylinder. I pulled out the wiring harness on the top of the switch and saw a little puddle of brake fluid. This was causing the switch to short out. This did not allow the cruise control to activate. I purchased the switch at the ford stealership for about $15 bucks and unscrewed the old olne and screwed in the new one. A buddy of mine still has the truck and no problems with the cruise control to date. Hope this helps.

Anyway, Ive got it fixed for now. Since the brake pressure switch was leaking and causing the problem, I just unplugged it and plugged in an electrical connector to it so the current could flow and it works fine. The cruise still goes off when I press the brakes so I'm just short the "back up" plan i guess. This is just a stop gap til christmas is over then I'll just get a new switch from ford and screw it in and it should be back to factory specs. Well...recall specs anyway

Sorry that I wasnt clear. Yes, I did bypass the brake pressure switch. I just fabricated a small "connector" similiar to a blade fuse and plugged it in the plug that attached to the brake sensor switch. I made it out of a round electrical end that I had in the shop. I taped the connector to the side of the fender so I know its not going to catch anything on fire with brake fluid. I dont think that it will catch fire anyway. I think thats why the recall plug has a fuse in it, but im not sure on that. does that help any at all? If not, I guess I can snap a couple of pics.

I guess you really want your CC.......I rarely use it. What I meant about the fire thing, was the recall puts in a fuse for that switch because that curcuit is always hot (as long as there's a good battery in the truck) and some leaking brake fluid (like you said was the problem in the first place) can cause a fire. So I guess you bypassed the switch, not the fuse? Whatever works for you, just hope your truck doesn't turn into a pile of ashes......
