I have a 2002 with a dealer installed remote starter. Used to work ok, but now most of the time it just cranks and does not start. How do I fix this problem?

 

let's troubleshoot your problem...
1) Try remote starting the truck with the key in the ign, but not turned..just in the off position.
-if it remote starts...your bypass needs to be fixed
2) Do you have a switch anywhere under the dash? if so, try flipping it then remote starting the truck.
3) Did you replace your battery? if so, then your tach will need to be reprogrammed.. IDK what remote starter you have, but if you have a valet switch under the dash.. to reprogram.. start the truck, w/in 5 sec press and hold the valet switch until the led stays constant, your tach is programmed.

this is under many assumptions, so at least it's a start

 

Well, I tried starting with the key in the ignition, horn chirped 2 times and light blinked at the same time. Nothing else happened. I think it is a code alarm brand. The battery has never been disconnected that I know of. Have not had a chance to look under the dash yet.
The led is on when the engine is running.

 

but did it still try cranking? is the led illuminate solid when the truck is on? or does it blink?

 

After more investigation, I closelyllooked at the LED, it is not on nor does it blink at anytime. I looked under the dash and found a push button that should be the programming button according to the owners manual. When I push the button with the truck off, the LED blinks. I tried reprogramming, but the led does not come on. The only box I can find is the Ford Security unit.
