just got truck second-hand, and noticed that digital odometer does not light up at night like rest of dash, any ideas appreciated

 

You've probably got the same problem I have with my 2005 XLT. Basically, the back light part of the LCD screen has died on you. Now for the bad news, to fix it you have to replace the instument cluster. That's about a $300.00 fix. I've learned to live without mine.

 

I have (or had) the same problem with mine. For some reason though mine has lit back up on me two different times in the last year. It had been out for almost a year when one day several months ago it decided to light back up again. It only stayed lit up that one day though before it was back out again. Then just the other day I got in the truck, started it up and the odometer was lit up again. It has been lit up for nearly a week now. I don't understand it? We'll see how long it lasts this time.
