At the trans shop we would call those PRNDL( pronounced "prindle") switches.. Just saying lol

 

I have a 87 ford f150 pickup with a manual transmission. I need to replace the neutral reverse switch. I know it is located on the transmission but I need to know where exactly. A picture would be a great help as I am not very mechanically inclined. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Just bought my brother-in-law's 97 F150, and am experiencing the same problem as kwirl was. Brake switch seems to be fine. Been having to "trick" the gear shifter into neutral to park and lock the parking brake to be safe. Tried your link but lead to nothing. Would you still have that info available?

Cached searches expire after a period of time, it seems.

kwirl's problem was probably that the shift interlock was not working properly. Usually, on a 97 or 98, that means the brake light circuit isn't working since that is what releases the interlock.

Do your brake lights work properly? If not, fix them and you should solve the shifting issue.

 

Brake lights work (come on when pedal is pressed), all three of them, in fact. I have not yet tested the wiring into the switch on the pedal yet, but if those test ok, should I consider the neutral switch next, and if so, is there a way to test it before removal/replacement?

I have no recollection of what the original exact SEARCH terms might have been..

If the shift lock does not release when the ignition is in RUN and the pedal is pressed and the brake lights work, then you have either a faulty shift interlock or the circuit from splice S231(?) to the shift lock module is open

It is can not be the switch on the transmission nor the wiring at the brake pedal switch before the splice.
