I'm new to this board and a new truck owner. My truck is a 2006 XLT SCAB. I'm in the process of installing an OEM bumper with foglights and I wanted some advice on the best way to wire the foglights. I read on this board that my truck already has the correct harness to connect the foglights even though my truck did not come from the factory with foglights. Is this true? Where is the harness located? The foglights that I am installing are OEM, and came with pigtails. If the correct wire harness is in place, could I replace my current light switch with the one where the **** pulls out to turn on the foglights? If someone has done this modification, please let me know how difficult the process is to complete. Do you have other recommendations?

Fog Lamps

I just replaced the front and rear bumpers on the same model truck with paintable ones and with fog lamp holes. Purchased the factory lamps, brackets and the light switch. I have search my truck for the fog lamp wires in the harness, but have not found the wires. I looked on both sides in the area of the headlight wires and opened the harness cover and didn't find any tan/orange wires. Anyone have any ideas......

I just finished installing a new bumper with foglights on my truck. Everything that I installed is OEM. I have not wired the folights because I'm waiting to see if someone else has done this mod, and hooked the foglights up in a way to utilize the headlight switch that pulls out to turn on the foglights. I did not find a factory harness for the foglights already installed on my truck. Please keep me informed if you find out any information and I will do the same for you.

I did this back in Jan or so with my 06.
Non fog light truck and i added round fogs.
There is no prewire. you can order the fog harness thru ford i believe but i dont know if you will be able to run the factory fog headlight switch.
I simply made my own harness to the lights and activate them via a relay.
my fogs are always on when either hi or lows are. You have no control this way but i didnt want a switch, i wanted them to automatically come on with both hi and lo beam.
not hard to do at all.
Made my harness, wired it in to the headlight harness and relay in under an hour.
You can wire up the relay to come on with hi or lo, or both like me, or simply run it to a switch in the dash if you prefer. Very easy to get creative. if the factory switch fits, and just lacks the fog output, then wire that output correctly to the relay and you get the same effect as factory.

Can you send me step by step instructions on how you made your harness, wired it to the headlight harness, and how you used the relay? I would like my foglights to turn on with the low beam headlights, but turn off with the high beam lights. Is that possible?

Thats not a problem.
You will need a normal relay (40 amp) these are readily available at any parts stores. You will also need a good lenght of cable (5-6 ft) of two different colors and a length of cable (preferably red) with a built in fuse holder.
If you dont already have plugs for your fogs then get those too.
I wired my plugs in and ran the positive and the negative from the right (driver) fog over to the left side fog, wired them together and left a good length of cable on the two wires. you should have two wires, a postive and a negative.

Next remove your Headlight.
Use a 10mm socket to remove the three screws located here and gently pull the headlight away.

I went ahead and grounded the Fogs, i used the small grounding screw used to ground the horn. You can see the back of the light here, and over on the far right the yellow arrow of where the screw is.

Heres a close up of the screw.

You will be tapping into the Dark Green/orange wire for fog operation during LO beam only.
I tapped in further back on the harness at the beginning of the loom cover. I actually soldered mine and shrink wrapped it. a wire interconnect would work just fine.
Heres a pic of teh headlight harness and the colors. You can see the tape i used to cover up all my splices

Dark green/ orange = Lo beam
Light green/black is HI beam

You can see my wires going into it above the white screw mounting leg of the container here.

Ground the 85 terminal
and finally connect a FUSED power wire from the + side of the batt to the 30 terminal on the relay. I didnt draw the fused connection in the diagram but you must have a fuse between the batt and the 30 connector of your relay.
Heres the diagram for that with the basic connections you need to make.

If you follow that closely, everything should work just fine. Your fogs will turn on automatically when your low beam is on.
Im not the greatest at explaining stuff, so hopefully the pics help.
If you plan on wiring the OE fog switch in, then simply determine the pin of the fog light output from the switch. Determine wether it is a neg (-) output or a pos (+) output with a test light. (im pretty positive it will be a pos(+) output.)
You can then run a wire from the OE switch at the dash to the relay like in the diagram as shown above. This wire will take the place of the headlight splice. Then you will be able to operate your fogs like factory.
I actually never turn my lights on, they remain on Auto lamps, so i wired my relay to operate with the parking lamp feed. Any time the lights are on, the fogs are on as well. The only downside is that they turn on with the parking lamps and they blink when i lock my truck. Not really a bid deal to me though, since i never turn just the parking lamps on. ill be rewiring when i get HIDs for the fogs and headlights though.

Pin #85 to ground = Fog lamps on with low or high beams.
Pin #85 to Dark green w/ orange stripe = fog lamps with high beam only
Ping #85 to Light Green w/ Black stripe = fog lamps with low beam only.
This config, the ground is obtained through the element in the bulb that is not operational ( or if tied to ground on fender, operational at all times ).
Pin #85 to ground = Fog lamps on with low or high beams.
Pin #85 to Dark green w/ orange stripe = fog lamps with high beam only
Ping #85 to Light Green w/ Black stripe = fog lamps with low beam only.

You probably just confused these guys though,
I never thought about it till now, but if i were to wire 85 to the high beam and 86 to the low beam, i would be alternating power and ground when i change my beam, and therby activating the fogs all the time without having to plug into the parking light. That would keep my fogs from pulsing when i lock the truck.... Hmmm
Guys, I've got the same identical situation with my '07 Screw. I'm buying a paintable front bumper with OEM fogs. It sure seems to me that there wouldn't have been much of a problem if Ford had installed the same wire harness in all F150 trucks. They may even could have sold more front bumpers and fog lights if it were easier to mount and plug the fog lights into a factory harness.

I never thought about it till now, but if i were to wire 85 to the high beam and 86 to the low beam, i would be alternating power and ground when i change my beam, and therby activating the fogs all the time without having to plug into the parking light. I dont know much about wiring things but thats fantastic .
