Foglight/brights mod and swabbing to 9005ST's

Just curious, has anyone done both the foglights on with high beam mod and switched there foglights to the Saylavnia 9005 ST bulbs? I do quite a bit of "trail" driving here in Georgie trying access different hunting locations around so no this is not a highway driving setup. The problem is that the trails are marked by different colored spray paint applied to trees and I have diffiulty seeing the markers.

One other thing does the bending pin one one Relay 202 and grounding that pin work to allow both the foglights and high beams on th 05 FX4? Just making sure the wiring hasn't been changed.

Thanks for the help.

I take it you found this thread :
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=233430

That is all it takes is grounding pin #1. The other 3 stay in the CJB, in in the stock locations.

You can bend the pin #1, or make a harness extension if you do not want to twist up your relay.

9005, I will let someone else answer, have not done that one.

I have done both as have many here. It really lights up the night and is a big improvement over stock. Do it and you will be glad you did. I would say if you really want to light it up, put the HID'S in the fogs. I plan to do this in the near future.

I hav'nt gone the HID route....but I have done the 9005ST's in the fogs and the low/high mod, it's soooo much better than stock!!

I have done both with great results. I have heard of the 9005 bulb burning too hot and melting the fog assembly, but I have had no evidence of this.

You're only going to run into problems with melting housings in certain instances. For instance, if you have the smaller, round fogs on the '06 and newer trucks, I wouldn't recommend higher wattage fogs due to less space to dissapate the heat. I have the '04 - '05 rectangular fogs with 9005 Silverstar Ultras and have had no problems.

The other way you can get in trouble is by going stupid on wattage for your 9005's. Anything over about 55 watts is going to either melt your lens or melt your harness.

i have the '06 fogs and have had no issues. I'm pretty sure my wattage is 55 as well.

SSCULLY,

I had not seen that thread. It was very similar though. Thanks for the confirmation.

All the rest,

Thinks for the tip. The only Sylvania Silverstars I had seen were 65 watts. The bulbs I have now are the Saylvania Silverstar 9145ST's at 45 watts. I think I will do the foglight/high beam mod first and see how that works (i already have all the stuff to do that laying around).
