Possessed driver side power window

Yesterday while driving my driver side power window lowered itself without any any assistance from me. Once the window was all the way down I tried to roll it up using the control. No luck. Anyways, I took the door panel off and found a tangled mess of what looks to be spooled wire. The motor is working but the wire is tangled with the motor. Has anyone else exeprienced this before?

RE: Possessed driver side power window

Haven't heard of this before. Where did the wire come from?

The wire is spooled to raise and lower the window.

Sorry I can't help. I own a 99 F150 with power windows but the windows lift with the geared scissor lift verson. I'll ask around...

Cheers!

cant say for a F150 but on my explorer i tightened the bolt holding the vertical brace a turn or two when the window did go back up using the switch. The window would get "stuck in the down position now and then due to that brace being loose. once i tightened that brace the problem was never seen again.

but by what you say" mess of spooled wire" my guess would be that the spooled wire is shredded and not doing something its supposed to be doing, I.E> keeping pressure on the motor so when it activates in a certian direction the window moves. im guessing that wire (non electrical metal wire???) should be attached to the motor somehow and is not anymore.

Unfortunately the 2004 F150 moved away from the scissor action for their power windows and moved to a dual cable configuration where the motor spools up the cable to raise the window and unspools it to lower the window. I know this as my F150 super crew just "popped its spool" a little over an hour ago. I ripped into the door expecting to find a busted plastic pin in the scissor mechanism (the safety feature), but found this garbled mess instead.

What I see is that the cable used to raise and lower the window is unspooled on the motor gear much like the way fishing line unspools on a bait-casting reel when not used properly. The cause of this (in my case) was that at least one of the connectors that holds the cable in place popped and the tension on the cable was lost (a little speculation, but nicely supported by the web of cable I have on the motor spool).

Rather than playing with trying to repair the cable ends and clean up the web of spooled cable, I am looking to purchase the entire assembly, including motor, cables, and rails for the windows. I found an aftermarket supply company that sells power window kits to replace hand-crank window kits (http://www.a1electric.com/Merchant2/...t_Code=FD82-K), but do not feel like forking out $250 for a pair of power window assemblies when I only need one. I also do not feel 100% comfortable purchasing a set that was made to replace hand-crank windows when I have power windows from the factory.

If any one has any suggestions on where I can get a single assembly for the driver door on a 2004 F-150 Super-crew 5.4 liter, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks for the thought. I actually called m local Ford dealer and found a somewhat reasonable price of $130 for a new assembly.
