I have a 2001 Ford F150 Xcab and when I put my tilt steering down the blinkers stop working. I checkend the wiring the best I could and when I did this the Flashers stop working. Found fuse blown #13 in panel a 20A repaced but Flashers still don't come on. Now only left signal works but right has a clicking noise to it but doesn't work. I was wondering if it could be the signal modual/lever assembly and the Flasher switch gone south. The other problem is power mirror don't work check all simple things like fuse. Stumped any Help
Thanks
The 2 problems you list sound unrelated, but some diagnoses is in order.
For the turn signal problem, remove the steering wheel column cover, and check the connector for loose / dark pins. Usually the symptom you are reporting is from a broken connector or loose pins.
Take a look at the connector prior to taking it apart, you might notice that the wire is tight, and the connector is pulling apart when you tilt the wheel.
If so, pull up some slack in the wire and rewire tie it in place.
During this, the pins in the connector are some times making part contact, and causing the pins to discolor from intermittent / poor contact. You might need to take the connector apart, and clean the contacts. While checking, look for areas that the connector might be broken at.
That is the first step to take a look at, We'll come back tot eh power window switch once we get the turn signal problem solved.
thank you got blinkers and flasher too work it was the pin connections on the flasher and the wiring was pulling on the blinker control put back together but still dosn't work at the lowest tilt but I know what i have to do with the wiring. Thanks Again. Now the power mirror problem I would like to check the control button but do not know how to remove.

When you say it does not work, is this is both axis ? ( up/dwn & L/R ).
Have you checked Central Junction Box ( CJB or cab fuse box ) Fuse #4, 5A ?
To remove it, use a plastic trim remover, or carefully wrap the end of a putty knife in a shop rag. Place under the front ( point ) of the triangle shaped door trim that the window switches are in. Twist the putty knife so you are picking up on the point of the trim piece. There is a spring clip under the point, and the rear of the trim piece is a tab under the arm wrest. So the full motion is up at the point, and slide forward to remove the back.
Here is the wiring diagram for the power mirrors, so you can check motor function.
You can test the motor by applying power and ground to :
UP/Down : Dark blue w/ yellow stripe ( reverse polarity to change the up/dwn direction )
L/R : Red w/ yellow stripe ( reverse polarity to change the direction )
Those are the quick things I can think of for testing, fuse & motor function, prior to testing the switch itself.
The OE power mirrors on my 2001 F150 are dead. No movement at all. Happened once before several years ago & a new switch fixed it. So once again I swapped in a new switch and nothing.
According to the manual, the power mirrors are the only thing on #4 5A fuse other than mirror turn signals, which I do not have. Checked the fuse & its blown. Pulled it for a new fuse & the second the leads touched the fuse box, it blew. Thinking I might have touched the wrong thing (it was getting dark), I tried another fuse. Same result.
Everything else electrical on the truck seems to work except the odometer display which sometimes lights up and sometimes doesn't, and the overhead console display (which I've been meaning to fix for about 5 years now). The only mods involving electrical are a set of self-installed PIAA fogs and a professionally installed Alpine amp. Both work and have been on the truck at least 10 years.
Unless someone has a better idea, my planned next step is to pull the door panel and the rubber harness boot between the door and cab to look for bare/blackened wiring. If you have a better idea, please weigh in because I'm not an electrical guy. Thanks in advance.
Finally had a day with no rain and a couple of hours free. Pulled the panels off both doors looking for power mirrors wiring problems. Traced wiring harness from where mirrors bolt to doors, down thru both doors and into the rubber boot between doors and cab. Harness cover appears intact throughout. No bare wiring showing or indications of corrosion or blackened wiring.
Found this connector in the drivers door that looked like it had some corrosion & cleaned it with an emery board & ISA, then blew clean w/ compressed air. Also replaced burned out 168 courtesy light.
Corrosion in power mirror connector in door panel?
Put everything back together, pulled the fuse cover, removed the burned out 5 amp #4 fuse, put in a new one and once again it popped as soon as the leads touched the fuse box connectors.
I'm at a loss what to check next. Appreciate any help, thoughts. Thanks.
