Interior Lights & Accesory delay
Interior Lights & Accesory delay
just a few questions
1. when i turn my truck off the radio turns off but the windows still work
(until i open a door or like 15 min.)
sorry, my trucks a 2002 lariat screw.
is this the way the accy delay is supposed to work, & how can i change it?
2. ok if anyone here is familiar with gms, they have a interior light cutoff swith, whenever you open the doors the interior lights wont come on.
is there any way to do this to my truck, i got really used to the feature on a rental truck & now i want it.
any help is appreciated

The '99 to '03 MY trucks, the accessory delay relay only powers the windows. The audio system as added to this feature in '04+ MYs.
I have seen a few posts where owners change the audio system to use the accessory delay circuit. I will put up a work of caution, the accessory delay circuit in '99-'03 trucks is not designed to have that load on it, so there could be problems later down the road. I have not seen a post to this fact, just a normal fact when overloading factory spec'd circuits in the truck.
still want to move forward on this ?

not if theres gonna be any kind of problem, just hate the radio turning off
my dad has an 03 screw (its a harley tho) & his radio didnt turn off. well it didnt until he got a aftr mrkt alarm & now nothing really works like it originally did
also i saw in the manual a relay for accessory delay but its not used in supercrews, why not?
thanks again
i am intrested in doing it though, the process of doing it & what has to be done is whats going to make my final decision

It is just going to be a bit of work.
Safe way ( mind you safe, not the way others have done it without issue ) is to use the accessory delay circuit to power a relay, and use a separate circuit via the N.O. contacts on the relay to power the radio. The power to the relay can be had via an Add-a-Fuse
The logic ( that I read ) others have used for hooking the radio power directly to the accessory delay circuit, is this is the same circuit that powers the rear slider, when that is a power option.

A relay is totally safe, if it's installed using normal practices (fused supply).
For the dome light cancel, just put a switch into the circuit between the LCM & the driver's door switch.

That diagram is for a P71 (cop car), but the LCM wiring should be virtually identical to your truck's. You MIGHT even be able to clip that ground wire (where the P71s have the connector) and reset the LCM to behave like a cop car, but I personally don't like that behavior. Interrupting the driver's door switch circuit is better IMO.

but will this only work with the drivers door?
so if im getting it right, i can use the power from the accessory delay for the rear slider, run a add-a-fuse & a relay & then connect it to the power supply for the radio.
is this correct, would there be any long term effects?
thanks

The Accessory Delay circuit runs the rear slider, and the power windows, so yes that is the one in the same circuit.
That is used to power the coil on the relay.
Ground to the other side of the coil on the relay.
Add-a-Fuse from the Central Junction Box to one side of the Normally Open contacts.
Power on to the radio with the other side of the N.O. contacts, this is what replaces the factory circuit up behind the dash. That wire gets blind end tapped, and left.
The only ill effect is the truck wiring is not stock. Not in a bad way, some do not like changing stuff like that, myself I do not have a problem with it.

But if you want stealth (for whatever reason), then why would you care if the light comes on when someone is getting into the BACK, or even the passenger front? You won't be sneaking around at that point, so it's better to let the lights come on for the passenger doors. If you want to kill the front passenger light switch, run its wiring to your new switch, and make the new one an DPST with each door circuit using a separate pole of the new switch. When you flip the switch, BOTH doors will be disabled, but they'll still be wired separately, the way they should be. If you want to do it to all 4 doors, use a 4PST switch.
