My dome light USED to suck!
But I finally got motivated because we are getting ready to go to the wilds of New Mexico and I wanted to be able to see a map w/o blinding the wife or I with the Streamlight or Surefire.
My dome light and map lights are obstructed by my roof-mounted shotgun rack but I need the po-lice issue shotgun rack to keep my 590A1 secure yet still allow instant access.
So it went from this:

To this:

DISCLAIMER - I put the camera on manual and had to dial the exposure up some because the first pic. just came out completely black. BUT I left the settings exactly the same for the "after" pic. ALSO I only screwed with the settings on the pix. of the dash.
Most folks probably have about as much interior light as in the second picture to begin with. I took all pix inside my garage with no other lights on. We live well outside of town so there was no other ambient light and very little moonlight filtering into the garage.
I used aluminum tape found in most hardware and "big box" stores for heat/ac duct work to line the dome light to try to get the most light possible out of the housing. The cab was noticeably brighter when I re-installed just the modded dome light, unfortunately I didn't take pix. before I modded the light with the tape... It was still nowhere near bright enough to get by w/o adding the LEDs though.
I plan to swap out the bulbs in the doors and the dome to LEDs to get rid of the horrible incan. yellow tint. I test drove the truck before I hardwired and mounted the lights and I have no problem driving with them on.
