Trailer light problem

I have read most of the threads on this topic and think I can figure this out but wanted to run my specific problem by you guys for one last opinion.
I also posted this in the towing thread so disregard this post if you saw that one. Its the same.

Anyway,

I have an 01 Supercrew. I bought a new utility trailer and all lights work fine on every vehicle that tows it EXCEPT mine. So its not a trailer issue.

With head lights on, I get dim taillights on the trailer. With head lights on AND I tap the brakes, trailer lights go off.

I have no working turn signals on the trailer but the truck signals work fine.

From what Ive read, this is a likely a grounding issue. Ive checked the fuses in the power distribution box under the hood and in the passenger compartment fuse panel. However, Ive read there is a third small fuse panel under the hood specifically for trailer fuses. I cant find this on the 01.

Any help would be appreciated......Id hate to buy a Chevy over this...

My gosh man, buying a Chevy over a trailer lamp problem is like turning gay because your lady has a headache! No, no, don't do it!!

* Battery junction box (BJB) Fuse:
o 5 (20A)
o 20 (10A)
o 19 (10A)
o 101 (30A)
o 108 (30A)
* Central junction box (CJB) Fuse 23 (10A)
* CJB Fuse 13 (20A)
* Corroded/loose connector(s)
* Loose/broken wire(s)
* Bulb(s)

See info starting on page 189 in the owners manual in reference to the above critical fuse locations. If you don't have a manual go here:
http://www.analogstereo.com/pdf/om/f...anual_2001.pdf

....and I e-mailed you the complete wiring diagram.

Let us know it you still can't get it to work.

Sounds for all the world like a grounding issue to me. Since your trailer apparently works fine with any other vehicle, I'd suspect the ground between your truck and the trailer. Remember, that ground is achieved two ways. One is through the metal to metal contact between your trailer coupler and the ball on your truck. The other is through the white wire on your harness. Speaking of which, how are you plugging into your truck? Are you using the Flat Four connector on all trucks or the 7 pin RV connector that comes with the trailer package?

7 pin

Im using the factory 7 pin plug. I added the Prodigy brake controller and compatible harness that plugs in under the dash. My electric brakes work while its plugged in. I tried all the lights with and without the brake controller plugged in but there was no difference in function of the lights.

I will say that I cant lock up the brakes even at the highest power setting. It does slow me down and I feel the brakes but I thought from the all literature that I should be able to lock them up.

??

Not being able to lock up your electric brakes and a bad gound might be separate problems - or they might be related. You should be able to lock them up manually, but not being able to might be a simple mechanical brake adustment (if you have drums) issue. The again, if you have a poor ground - even with properly adjusted brakes - you might not be getting full power through the controller.
