wiring boat trailer plug for reverse

I have a 05 F150 that comes with the stock 7 pin round light plug. My boat has a 5 pin flat which I have the conversion plug to make it all work. My question is my trailer has serge brakes and I have been told I can wire out a lead from the reverse lights to disengage the brakes when backing up. Has anyone done this and what exactly do I need to do?

While I have never used Surge brakes to know for sure, there are a few thread in the towing and hauling section on it. Some conflicting information, so you woudl need to check the owners manual on your trailer to see which version of surge brakes you have.

If you use the conversion plug to get you from the 7 pin round connector to the flat 5 configuration, you have everything you need and no additional wiring is required. The blue wire in the 5 flat is wired into your reverse light circuit. It energizes a solenoid that effectively blocks your brake line. You'll need this to back up with disk brakes. Said another way, all of the wiring you need came with your truck. You don't need to do anything additional.
