Hot Wire

Does anyone know if there is a wire that's hot all the time near the rear bumper of my '03 F 150. I need it to power a cargo light in a camper shell.
Thanks.

If you have a factory trailer connector...

Hot Wire

Steve,

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. I do have the factory tow package and it does have set up you posted. But unless I'm missing something, the only wire that I could use would be the orange wire on the trailer plug and that would be the key on only. I really needed one that would be hot all the time. I quess I'll have to run a wire the length of the truck from the fuse box or battery. Thanks again for your quick reply.

My mistake - I thought the battery feed was always hot. Yeah, I guess you'll have to pull a new circuit if you want to do it that way.

Another option (if your truck does NOT have an LCM) is to bring the LG/Y circuit out of the CHMSL above the rear window & connect that to your camper shell. That's the map light circuit, so it's always hot.

If your truck DOES have an LCM, you won't have the LG/Y circuit in the dome light - you'll have LG/Or, which is turned off a few minutes after the key is removed. This shows the LCM wiring colors:

Thanks for all of your help Steve. I really appreciate the effort. I think I'll run a fused hot wire to the rear.
