brake lights went out

my brake lights quit working and underneath the truck by the back bumber a green wire had come unhooked but i looked and didnt see where it would go, so i spliced it in with the other green wire under there and they worked. But when i have my left blinker on and i hit the brakes the blinker stops but when i let off the brake it starts back working.
can someone please tell me what i need to do??

Where do the wires come from ?

There is a Light Green w/ White Stripe and a Light green w/ orange stripe.

The green wire you spliced it to, where is this and was it an open ended wire, or did you in-line splice the other "green" wire to it ?

i in-line spliced into the green wire w/ orange stripe
the wire was up under the bumper and it went up and hooked into a connedtor going up to the brake light i guess. it was on the drivers side brake light
