Power Window Motor Takedown question
Hello All, I have read the thread started by LTHRNECK and the comments by SSCULLY and I am having the same problem as everyone else that posted in a 96 F150 SC. Mine is due to lack of use and when it does work it flys up and down as well as it did when new in 1996..
As I stated in that thread, I pulled the door panel and after having read what I did about giving it a "love tap" on the tire and the other solutions I took a small brass hammer and did it with the motor still in the door. Left the panel off for 3-4 days and all was fine.. Put the panel back on and after several more days I am back to square one..
In that I can get to the motor I am wondering if anyone has just pulled the motor off the mechanism and were you able to get into the motor and do a clean up with electical motor cleaner?? Mine has allen heads or torx I really didn't pay that much attention as the "love tap" worked the first time and I THOUGHT I was home free..
If anyone has done this I sure would appreciate hearing if it will work or not..
TIA for taking the time to read this .. John D./Lakebum

When you pull the door panel, you'll be able to see one of the motor bolts (an 8mm hex). You'll ALMOST be able to see another, and the 3rd will be totally obscured. But over those 2, you'll see a distinct dimple in the sheet metal - that's where you drill a 1/2" hole, and an 8mm socket will fit right in.
For more info, click the black Bronco below & look in the Doors album, & in Tailgate Tech (the t/g motor is just like the door motors).

Thanks Steve83, I guess I didn't phrase my question right.. What I am trying to figure out is not removing the whole mechanism but just the electric motor as mine has allen heads or trox head screws that I can get to without the drilling and pulling the complete assembly.. My question is has anyone done this or am I looking at small electrcal parts flying everywhere.. I don't know if the newer models have these screws in that location but the 96 does.. Thanks for all the great links.. John D/Lakebum
If you are going to try taking it apart still mounted, I think this would be a problem with parts flying.
If I think along normal DC motors, the brushes are mounted on springs.
I know my impact gun, and drills have plastic plugs that hold the spring & motor brush in, and they can be backed out, to replace the brushes.
Take this basic info, applied to the window motor, I did not see a place for the spring / brush assembly to be pulled out, so it seems to be a case of the motor need to be pulled out, and in the case are the springs and motor brushes. Trying to hold the brushes in, and place back together from inside the door I would think is going to be a challenge.
The other question, is it a case of the brushes are just dirty or if they need to be replaced, and if you can find the replacement brushes easily is another question all together.
I don't know, it was easier to just replace the motor one it did the intermittent stopping again. It was down to pulling every 30 days to hit it against the tire, too much a pain, and worth the 50.00 for another motor from Napa.

I suspect your right and that bits and pieces will fly everywhere.. I was just hopiing somone had tried it and could tell me what to expect.. But like you I sure don't feel like pulling it once a month.. Appreciate the input.. John D./Lakebum

Window Lift Motor
Gentlemen, I read the articles about replacing motor and such. My problem is that it appears the motor is being held on by "whatever" on the inside of where there are two very small dimples in the metal. There are six "rivots" holding the regulator, but they don't appear to be holding the motor. Do I have to remove everything to replace the motor? Is there anything other than drilling to remove the motor?
Thanks, Brent (1999 F150)
