1990 F-150 will not start unless I touch a something metal to the starter relay...
I have a 1990 F-150 truck that will not turn over when I try to start it. I have replaced the battery and the starter relay and nothing happened. I was then told that it may be the ignition itself so I replaced that...nothing. The next suggestion I got was to replace the ignition module and check all the fuses. Both of which have been done with no success. It is like there is no fire between the ignition and the starter relay. The truck has sat for about 16 months now but if I touch the posts on the starter relay, it kicks right off and runs great. I need to get this truck running but don't have $500 to put it in the shop. If anyone has had the same problem please let me know what the outcome was. I am getting more frustrated by the moment. Any suggestions would be helpful!!!!
no start
There are fusable links involved with the starter circuit. When you do the thing with the metal you are bypassing them or jumping them out. Either identify which fusable links are used in the circuit or replace them all. There are a few of them You can identify the links coming off the starter by the square block on the wire. If you test the curcuit with a volt meter I am sure you will find which one it is. There are links coming off of that realy also

If you have cruise (whether it works or not), go to the Tech Writeups forum on FSB & search up the article about Ignition Actuator Replacement.
