Speedometer Problems

I have a 1998 F150 with the 4.6L V-8. Out of the blue the Speedometer quit working. However the odometer and trip odometer (analog kind) still work. I replaced the sensor on the transmission and that did not work. Is there a fuse or relay for it and if so what is is listed under. I have checked my fuses and do not find any thing blown. and for it to work in the am and not in the pm is confounding? Any Ideas.

Is the speedo digital ? If so,you may have a bad solder joint on the dash pcb.

F150 speedo

I have the same problem on my 1998 F150. Speedo started to act strange - not the right speed - then it died. Transmitter replaces but no help. Feels like a grounding problem. Ideas??

after slugging through many back posts I found one that dealt with this issue. It used a unique method of repairing the problem, one use by repairmen for generations "I banged on it". Thats all I did I pounded on the panel and on the top of the dash and it started working. I just hope it continues to work. I too tried to replace the speed sensor on the transmission and that didn't work. But when I noticed the odometer was still working I knew I was getting power to the gages, thats when I went digging through the old posts and found this great repair technique. It may or may not work, but it is cheap and worth a shot.

speedo slapped around but still sluggish

I tried to knock the speedo around - it moved a bit but not fixed. At highway speeds ~60 it reads 30. At 30 it reads 0. I can't tell how hard it is to replace. Tried to get the factory manuals on-line but could not get the stupid software to load. My Haynes manual indicated it should not be too hard. Any advice?

Same problem Here

I have a 93 Lightning and after not driving it for a bit I took it out and the speedo and the odometer don't work but all the other guages do, any ideas? I though that maybe the electrical board broke but I would think that the other guages would malfunction as well.
