HELP!! Can't get snap ring to fit!
HELP!! Can't get snap ring to fit!
I have a 1990 F150 supercab 6-cyl w/tilt steering that had a broken lower actuator. I replaced it and managed to get the darn steering column put back together but now the new Ford part # 3C610B does NOT FIT!! It's curved, and the spot where it goes, around the steering shaft, is perfectly round. I can't get it to fit any way I try. Ford dealer gave me this part twice, swears it's the right one but it don't fit. I lost the original snap ring or threw it away because I wanted to put in all new parts.
Anybody else have this problem?? What is wrong here??
Thanks

You'll get a lot more help with your pre-'97 truck if you join FSB. This BBS caters more to '97-up trucks. But FSBers (me included) are sticklers for searching, so be sure you do plenty of reading before you post a question.
It also helps a LOT if you post photos of what you're working on - SMN is a totally free image hosting service.

YES I am a newbie and I DO read...
Ok, I got it, I am a newbie, and maybe most of you guys here are talking about your really cool new Ford trucks, but I joined this site because it says "F150" and that's what I have. So far I have posted at least twice, and not one person has tried to help me. I am a regular guy who bought an F150 that had issues..I fixed most of them already. I DO read a LOT beore I ask a question, I HAVE read every goddamn thread about this freaking ignition actuator and after almost 2 weeks of doing this when I have spare time, during which time I managed to fix the broken lower actuator and get the steering column back together thank you very much, I cannot figure out why the damn lock cylinder/gear/upper actuator notches don't line up to make the key turn properly. YES, I read the diagram that says the last tooth on the gear should engage the last notch on the upper actuator, and I DID look at the pretty pictures that Steve83 has on his write up and I DID line my gear up exactly like that with the ignition rod in the "ON" position but it still doesn't work. I tried the gear in every conceivable position that is possible and still allow the key cylinder to be reinserted but no go. It seems like the lower actuator doesn't physically go far enough to allow the key cylinder to be turned to the "OFF" position.
Can anyone please help? I now have about a week to get this fixed and the truck inspected or I lose my temp tags.
