f150 XL cruise control

looking into buying an 01 or so f150 xl. All of them I have found that suite me (so far) don't have cruise control. Can cruise be added and how tough is it if the vehicle isn't already equipped?

It shouldn't be too difficult to add, but it's no easy task. It requires replacement of a bunch of parts in teh steering column, additional parts under the hood, as well as tapping into a few wires that may or may not be on your truck already.

IIRC, cruise wasn't even an option on the XLs, was it?

they just added it to my dad's new work truck at Ford. It took a couple of hours but I do not know what they had to do other than a computer reprogram

Trucks with an e-throttle just need a new steering wheel (w/buttons), maybe a clock spring, and the cruise enabled in the PCM.

Older trucks with a throttle cable need the wheel, maybe the clock spring, the servo, & the servo cable. The rest of the wiring is in place on all models. It's not difficult at all, once you get the parts.

bought4less.com
has Cruise controls for your F150.
Easy to install, and dead-on accurate.
Has all the normal features.
Choose either an electronic cruise with vacuum servo or an all electric cruise.
both work superb.
The MFG is a ford supplier, and built ford's aftermarket cruise for many years.
