Missing Oil sender????
Missing Oil sender????
Hey there. I searched the site and forum areas....and I did find some threads that say the oil sending unit is located above the oil filter.
I drive a 2000 4wd Expy 5.4.
I looked and looked...Nothing with any kind of wire coming from it. With the filter off...all I see is a large metal pipe directly above. To the front of the vehicle, directly next to the filter I see a two wire plastic connector of some type but I believe that is attached to the power steering pump.
Obviously Im lost. Could there be another area? The one they gave me at the autoparts store looks similar to a spark plug with a one wire connector on the end.
Any help would be great. thanks.

On my 97 5.4 4X2, it's located a couple of inches rearward from the power steering pump, screwed into the engine at an angle relative to horizontal. Crawl under there and look upward. Metal/orage plastic sensor body with a single-pin connector. Just pinch the release tab of the connector to release it and pull it off.

Thanks. Again, I must be a moron. Its not there. A few inches aft of the PS pump is my actual filter. Could it be aft of that? Blocked from veiw by the front Diff?
And for those of you who may ask...No, Im not an umpire.

Well, after looking closer, the 4X2 and 4X4 versions of the 5.4 used different oil filter adapters from what I can see in the service manual.
On yours, the switch should be located right on the adapter that the filter screws into, forward side. Right below where the lower radiator hose connects to its inlet.
